Family Markings

Sometimes, a creature may present with a small, symmetrical special marking unique to them and their offspring!
Family Markings can range from simple to complex and will require an extra reference upon design approval if the marking cannot be fully made out.
You may design your own family marking if your Import has no lineage.

Creating a Family Mark

When creating your own Family Marking, there are a few rules to follow.
First off, always make sure your Import has no lineage!
Family Markings cannot be created for Imports with a lineage.
Important: Regalisaurus may not have a family marking.

You are allowed to shape your Family Marking in any way you want, but we will reject any import that
presents with hateful, copyrighted or otherwise illegal symbols.
Family Markings must always be symmetrical.

You may pick up to any three colors for your Family Marking. They do not need to be swatch picked.
These colors can gradient into each other or be solid.
Furthermore, your Family Marking may present with any edge type, or a mix of them.
It may also optionally fade out where it ends.

Your Family Marking must always stay in the Family Marking range of your Import's species!
You can find all Family Marking ranges here.

Once you have your Family Marking put down on the Import, you may optionally attach a .png reference showing
your Family Marking from the front in Design Approvals!
This is mainly for Imports where Family marks can't be fully made out or if you want an extra reference on your Import's profile.

Passing down a Family Mark

If a relative of your Import that's visible in its lineage has a Family Marking, you may choose to pass it down to your creature!
This is entirely optional and comes with a few rules.

If you decide to pass down a Family Marking, it must look similar to the Relative's marking.
This means you may erase parts of it, but not add onto it!
You may also vary the shapes of the marking a little to make it unique to your creature.

While the color of the Family Marking must be similar to that of the relative, you may
add variation to it by slightly changing the hue and shade of it.

Let's take a look at the Family Marking we want to pass down:

This creature uses both areas for their Family Marking, so let's see some
possible examples on what variations you can do with it for your own Import:

If your Import's species is different from that of the relative you want the Family Marking of,
you have to make sure to translate it as accurately as you can as the Family Marking ranges differ from species to species!
For example, you may move the Family Marking from a Stegosaurus's plates onto a Dilophosaurus's frill.

If your Import has two possible ranges for Family Markings, you may only use one of them to copy the Family Marking onto!
However, if your creature has more than one visible relative with a Family Marking, you may copy one of each Marking onto one area each.
